Lisa Garcia aka Mommabear

Lisa Garcia is an outdoor enthusiast who finds joy, inner peace, harmony and love in the beauty and abundance of nature.  Using nature as her medium her work focuses on developing human capability through self-discovery and helping others co-author a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling.  Lisa believes our talents, strengths and imperfections all combine to make us unique beings with gifts to positively impact the world.

Lisa held executive leadership positions in leadership development with both the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Hotel Companies for over 30 years.  During the past 10 years Lisa and her family owned and operated a successful outdoor recreational facility in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.  INDIGO Nature Retreat located in the Pisgah National Forest is the next chapter in her life story.

  • Bachelor’s in Hospitality Management from Michigan State University

  • Professional certificate in Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance from George Mason University

  • Professional certification as a Certified Nature Retreat Leader  via

  • Certification of completion of Wilderness First Responder  course, Great Smokey Mountains Institute at Tremont, Tennessee

  • Completion of Shinrin-Yoku Guide training, Shinrin-Yoku is Japanese for “Forest Bathing” – a gentle path to wellness, Santa Rosa, California

  • Completion of Self-Compassion training taught by Kristin Neff, PhD and Chris Germer, PhD

  • Fluent in Spanish acquired through formal education and living and working internationally

Event programming includes ample opportunities for Nature immersion. 

Gentle guided Shinrin-Yoku walks, area waterfall hikes, overnight backpacking

excursions or simple creek side sojourns are a few of the ways to experience nature up close and personal at INDIGO.

Time to experience the power of group meditation and time to enjoy your own personal meditation practice is created during our retreats.

Breathe deep, inhaling for yourself, exhaling for others, all in a slow natural rhythm.  Notice the thoughts drift in like clouds crossing the sky and return once again home to your breath, your center.  Open your heart to the present knowing all is well.


Acknowledge your innate creative talent and express your authenticity. Believe " I am unbounded, I am limitless, I am free to show my true colors". Exercise your creative muscles to embrace life and all its challenges as creative opportunities. 

Artistic fun is an essential element of every retreat.  It may be singing, playing instruments, painting, drawing,  jewelry making, or another medium.  Sessions are led with the intent to unleash your creative spirit and engage  your Soul self.
