We had a fabulous time staying at Indigo! The house and surrounding woods was absolutely beautiful, and an easy drive down a mountain road (we did this in a regular car, but if you wanted to go much further up the road or if you’re coming in times of snow, would definitely recommend something with 4 wheel drive). Tons of lovely day hikes nearby, with Asheville easily accessible as well. We enjoyed the last of the fall foliage and many nights by the fire, and were charmed by North Carolina’s hospitality and Lisa’s wonderful suggestions. Don’t hesitate- this was a fantastic stay!

Indigo Retreat is an amazing, serene sanctuary in which to relax, play, and be refreshed. The lodge is beautifully decorated, immaculate and comfy. My husband and I enjoyed the peacefulness of the forest as we biked or simply strolled along the forest road taking in the beautiful fall colors and the sound of water flowing in Newberry Creek. It was also a special treat to have access to a yoga studio and a campfire at night as we enjoy the star-filled sky. Lisa has created a truly magical space that reflects her generous, loving spirit and bright smile! Whether you are seeking hiking/biking adventures or a quiet, peaceful respite from the noise of everyday life (or both) this is the place to go! We will definitely be returning!

Our (my wife and I) stay at Indigo was wonderful. It is most definitely off the beaten track while still being relatively close to what you come to this part of North Carolina for - rest, nature and some damn good food and beers. Lisa and Alex could not have been more accommodating and helpful and the home is as beautiful as the photos they share. You are tucked way at the end of a dirt road, nestled deep into the mountains and set next to a serene river and a restorative mountain hike up the forest road. The home has everything you could need to make your stay comfortable and is so beautifully designed. My favorite moments were sunrise on the back porch or the quiet nights under the stars while listening to the river. I will say that the internet is satellite which is perfectly fine for general browsing, but if you will be bringing work with you and need hearty WiFi you will need to take a short ride to either Marion or over the pass into Black Mountain (The Dripolator is a solid spot). You are about a 30 minute easy drive into Asheville, maybe a 10 minute drive to Catawba Falls and our favorite an hour and 15 minute drive to Looking Glass Peak (we nailed the timing for falls full color change). If you are looking to relax and truly be away from it all, this is the spot!
